CLINKS EVENT: emerging managers
Clinks has teamed up with the Management Centre to offer emerging managers a high-energy introduction to their role as managers [14th & 15th August, London, £300]. This training programme is specially designed to give newer managers a safe opportunity to try out new skills and approaches. The training will focus on their responsibility for achieving results, equipping them to build successful teams and resolve challenges, and cover areas such as developing people, managing for performance, and delegation. This programme is designed for individuals who have recently been promoted or who are about to be promoted and are now responsible for managing colleagues or teams. It is the ideal development opportunity for managers or potential managers that an organisation has identified for fast track. Find out more and book your place here
CLINKS BLOG: The election aftermath – what it means for Clinks members
Nathan Dick, Head of Policy and Communications at Clinks, has posted a blog on what we know about the new Ministerial team at the Ministry of Justice. David Lidington is our third Secretary of State for Justice in less than a year, but with promises of consistency perhaps we will see a continuation of Liz Truss’ approach to prison reform. If you want to keep up to date with all policy issues then become a clinks member and receive our monthly policy bulletin. Read the blog here
CLINKS BLOG: the view from the ground
This is the first in a series of blogs that give a detailed account of the experience of voluntary organisations working in criminal justice, focusing on the needs of their service users, their service delivery and their funding situation. The information has been edited from a selection of in-depth interviews that were conducted as part of our data collection for the state of the sector work. In this anononymous guest blog, the writer talks of the challenges faced by their organisation, and writes "If the wings aren’t open, we can’t work. If people are locked out, we can’t work. If people are suffering from mental health challenges and can’t get out of their cells, then we can’t work." The writer also discusses opportunities for the future, and causes for optimism. CLINKS EVENT: inspecting probation services: date change
If you were the Chief Inspector of Probation, what standards would you set for the work of the National Probation Service, Community Rehabilitation Companies and Youth Offending Teams? HM Inspectorate of Probation want to ensure that future inspection plans are well informed about the role and contribution of the Voluntary and Community Sector. Clinks is holding a series of workshops [Date changed for Manchester, Date changed for Newcastle, 17th July London, 21st July Cardiff] with HMI Probation so that voluntary organisations can learn about the inspection framework and help to set standards which will be used for future inspection of probation services. Draft inspection standards will be published towards the end of June. You can find out more and book your place here. For Manchester or Newcastle, please email events@clinks.org to express your interest.

Delegates will hear about the Lammy Review’s progress and the work of and reports published by a range of voluntary sector organisations working to address racial disproportionality in the criminal justice system. There will be opportunities to discuss what this evidence means for the work of the voluntary sector and criminal justice agencies and how we can work together to build on the Review’s agreed recommendations post-publication. Two briefings have been published which present learning from the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust (WCMT) Prison Reform Fellowships. Find out more and read the briefings here
