CLINKS MEMBER'S NEWS: young adults
Roger Grimshaw, Research Director at the Centre for Crime and Justice Studies has published findings from his report ‘Making Sense of Maturity’ carried out for Transition to Adulthood (T2A) into how practitioners have been using T2A’s ‘Taking Account of Maturity’ guide which was published in 2013. CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: prisons and courts
The Justice Select Committee has published its final report on Part 1 of the Prisons and Courts Bill, before the dissolution of Parliament in the run up to the general election. Find out more here
CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: mental health
The Joint Committee on Human Rights has published its interim report 'Mental health and deaths in prison'. It makes several recommendations including a prescribed legal maximum to the time a prisoner can be kept in their cell each day, a legal obligation for the Prison Service to ensure that each young prisoner or adult prisoner with mental health problems has a key worker and that provision should be made in the Prison Rules to enable people at risk of suicide to make free phone calls to a designated family member or friend.
