CLINKS REPORT: voluntary sector collaboration
Clinks and Centre for Justice Innovation have published 'Why we collaborate', a report exploring voluntary sector collaboration in the criminal justice system. It looks at how voluntary organisations collaborate, what makes it work, and why it sometimes fails. The report showcases four case studies and seeks to draw conclusions about the motivation for collaboration, the impact which it can have and the factors which underpin successful collaboration. Nathan Dick, Head of Policy and Communications at Clinks has written a blog discussing the report. Read the blog and download the report here
CLINKS RESPONSE: police and crime plan
London Voluntary Service Council (LVSC) and Clinks have submitted this joint response the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime’s (MOPAC) consultation on their Police and Crime Plan 2017-18. The response outlines the issues highlighted by voluntary sector organisations during LVSC’s consultation with their Safer Future Communities network, focusing on engagement of the voluntary sector, tackling inequalities and meeting the needs of vulnerable people. The recommendations include that the Metropolitan Police Service should seek to build positive communication links with refugee and migrant communities, that MOPAC should develop and publish a strategic plan for tackling inequalities for black, Asian and minority ethnic people within the criminal justice system in London and that MOPAC should utilise the learning from the Making Every Adult Matter coalition in order to inform its approach to devolution. We are looking for a motivated individual to provide a wide range of administrative support for the Clinks team at our offices in central London. The role involves helping to maintain our databases and directories, providing membership and events support, diary management and assisting colleagues with a wide variety of administrative tasks to ensure the smooth running of Clinks. The post is full time and fixed term until 31st March 2018. The salary is £18,746 per annum plus 6% pension contribution. The deadline for applications is 7th April at 5pm. Find out more and apply here
CLINKS NEWS: join the RR3 advisory group
Clinks is currently recruiting two specialist members to the Reducing Reoffending Third Sector Advisory Group (RR3). The group meets quarterly with the purpose of building a strong and effective partnership between the voluntary sector and the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), providing expertise and voluntary sector representation to the MoJ in relation to their policy developments. One role is reserved for an individual with experience of supporting people with substance misuse issues in the criminal justice system, and one for someone involved in the senior management of a larger scale voluntary organisation. If you would like to apply for one of the roles, please visit our website to see the person specifications. The deadline for applications is 7th April. Find out more here
CLINKS NEWS: Consultants Directory
We are considering the idea of extending our Consultants Directory to Clinks members for free, so that voluntary organisations who want to offer consultancy can promote their skills, knowledge and experience. Clinks’ popular Consultants Directory holds clear and concise contact information and brief profiles of consultants working with voluntary organisations in the criminal justice system. It is currently only open to consultants paying a fee to advertise their services to voluntary organisations. 400 users a month search the directory and use its filtering system to find consultants and access their expertise quickly. We are trying to get a sense of whether this is something that would be of interest to members. If so, please contact events@clinks.org
CLINKS BLOG: the voluntary sector in prisons
In this guest blog Marie Waterman, the Voluntary Sector Co-ordinator at HMP Guys Marsh, highlights the benefit to the prison of her role in bringing voluntary services together and supporting their day to day work. She discusses Clinks' Good Prison project which works across three prisons in the South West: HMPs Dartmoor, Exeter and Guys Marsh. She highlights five key ways prisons can benefit from having a voluntary sector co-ordinator, including capturing the voices of those within the prison, and enabling a dialogue between the sector and prison. CLINKS PARTNER'S NEWS: housing first
Making Every Adult Matter (MEAM), a coalition of Clinks, Homeless Link and Mind, has responded to 'Housing First: housing-led solutions to rough sleeping and homelessness', a report from the Centre for Social Justice. MEAM welcome its publication and recommendations. A range of responses are needed to end homelessness and Housing First has a vital role to play. A successful Housing First model depends on having coordinated, cross-sector support in place for the range of multiple needs that people experience. Read the response here
CLINKS MEMBER'S NEWS: women centred reform
Women in Prison has published 'Corston + 10', a report which reviews the progress made since the release of the Corston Report ten years ago. The Corston report made 43 recommendations for women centred reform in the criminal justice system. 'Corston + 10' highlights a number of areas for the government to consider including funding for women's centres, greater use of alternatives to custody and the need for co-ordinated collaboration between agencies. SURVEY: juvenile radicalisation
PRALT's 'The prevention of juvenile radicalisation’ project is collecting lessons learned in the UK by organisations working with any extremist/radicalized groups or individuals, to showcase in a judicial training manual. PRALT aims to make judicial services more aware of the risks of prison sentencing for people with extreme ideologies, as well as the positive outcomes of disengagement, de-radicalisation and preventive approaches outside of prisons. Their work promotes more resources going into effective de-radicalistion programmes as alternatives to detention. Take the survey here
