Bob will be focussing on engagement of the voluntary sector with the Justice Select Committee, highlighting ways the sector can influence the political and public debate through the Committee. The conference will bring together the voluntary sector and other stakeholders to discuss the progressive work being carried out across England and Wales, but also the changes and challenges faced by the sector. Workshops will include: collaboration in the voluntary sector, how to involve service users and the impact they can have, and working together to keep women out of prison. Find out more and book here
CLINKS BLOG: family work in prisons
Clinks' Families Development Officer, Patrice Lawrence, has written a blog about her experience of attending a National Offender Management Service (NOMS) regional roadshow on the commissioning of services for the families of prisoners. NOMS put out a tender for family services for adult men in English prisons and organised a schedule of regional roadshows to meet with organisations interesting in bidding. The blog looks at the details of the tender, the challenges for the voluntary sector, and makes suggestions of ways the sector can continue to deliver innovative family work in prisons. CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: a distinct approach with young adults
The House of Commons Justice Committee has published a report on the treatment of young adults in the Criminal Justice System. The report finds that there is overwhelming evidence that the Criminal Justice System does not adequately address the distinct needs of young adults and that there is a strong case for a distinct approach. The Transition to Adulthood Alliance, a coalition of 15 organisations including Clinks, welcomes the report and believes its recommendations should be implemented in full and without delay. Read the T2A statement and download the report here

PUBLICATION: rehabilitative prisons
RSA and Transition Spaces have published 'A matter of conviction', the final report of their Future Prison project, which set out to explore how prisons in England and Wales could better support rehabilitation. The report sets out a blueprint for a community-based rehabilitative prison and a policy framework to support such models. It finds that safety and staff numbers are critical to changing the purpose of prisons to one that is truly rehabilitative, but this needs to form the foundation of wider and deeper system change.
