CLINKS EVENT: do you work with women in criminal justice?
If you work with women in contact with the Criminal Justice System, we want to hear from you. Clinks, in partnership with Agenda, Women's Breakout and Women's Resource Centre, is holding the next women's networking event [19th September, Birmingham, free]. Attendees will be discussing the key issues impacting their organisations and service users. If you cannot attend but would like to contribute to the discussion, please contact us. You can download an agenda, book on to the event, and find contact details on our website here
CLINKS SURVEY: the impact of leaving the EU
What will leaving the EU mean for your organisation? Clinks is keen to gauge initial reactions and take the temperature of the voluntary sector working in the Criminal Justice System. The European Union (EU) referendum outcome has triggered an unprecedented political, social and financial climate of uncertainty and change. The potential loss of EU structural funds and the impact on financial markets, investments, charitable donations and trust funds could change the funding landscape for the voluntary sector. Clinks will use the responses to this survey to ensure we can shape the development of our offer of support to the sector. The survey will close on Friday 23rd September 2016. Respond to the survey here

CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: accommodation for homeless children
HM Inspectorate of Probation has published an inspection report looking at the accommodation of homeless 16 and 17 year old children working with youth offending teams. The report finds that one in three children in their inspection were housed in accommodation the inspectorate considered unsuitable or unsafe. They were particularly concerned about the risks those sharing hostel or bed and breakfast accommodation with adult strangers were exposed to. The report makes recommendations to make the accommodation for homeless 16 and 17 year olds safer and the support provided to them more effective, so as to increase their prospects of successful, adult independence. Download the report here
CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: probation inspection in Manchester
HM Inspectorate of Probation will be carrying out a Quality & Impact inspection in Greater Manchester during the weeks commencing 24th October, 31st October and 21st November. If you have any queries about this, please contact HMI Probation (Enquiries) mailbox at HMIP.Enquiries@hmiprobation.gsi.gov.uk

PUBLICATION: Brexit vote explained
Joseph Rowntree Foundation has published 'Brexit vote explained: poverty, low skills and lack of opportunities', a report that reviews existing research, examines new data and considers the implications for the wider debate around the results of the EU referendum. The report finds that groups in Britain who have been left behind by rapid economic change and feel cut adrift from the mainstream consensus were the most likely to support Brexit. These voters face a ‘double whammy’: while their lack of qualifications put them at a significant disadvantage in the modern economy, they are also being further marginalised in society by the lack of opportunities in their low-skilled communities.
