CLINKS NEWS: CRC contact information
Clinks has published contact information for the voluntary sector to engage with the Community Rehabilitation Companies (CRCs) responsible for the management of low to medium risk offenders in the 21 Contract Package Areas across England and Wales. The information was provided by the Ministry of Justice, and lists the owner of each CRC, named contacts, and known contact information. CLINKS NEWS: reducing reoffending meeting
The Reducing Reoffending Third Sector Advisory Group (RR3) met on 29th February and was joined by the Minister for Prisons and Probation, Andrew Selous. RR3 exists to build a strong and effective partnership between the voluntary sector, the Ministry of Justice, and the National Offender Management Service to reduce re-offending. The group discussed issues relating to the voluntary sector in the Criminal Justice System and the government’s plans for prison reform. CLINKS OFFER: grants for individuals in need

It contains details of over 1,500 trusts and outlines at-a-glance the eligibility criteria, amounts available and how to apply. CLINKS BLOG: engaging with the police and crime commissioner elections
The candidates for the next police and crime commissioner (PCC) elections, taking place on 5th May, have now been announced. Clinks’ Policy Intern Oonagh Ryder has written a blog outlining how voluntary sector organisations can raise awareness about the importance of the voluntary sector in the Criminal Justice System during the election period, and also how to engage with PCC candidates. CLINKS MEMBER'S NEWS: research fellowship open to applications
The 2016 Griffins Fellowship Programme is now inviting applications for research to bring about change in how women and girls are dealt with in the Criminal Justice System. The Griffins Society promotes effective practice in working with women and girls who are in prison or subject to criminal justice interventions in the community. The Visiting Research Fellowship Programme, in partnership with the Institute of Criminology, University of Cambridge, offers practitioners from the public or voluntary sectors a unique opportunity to contribute. Previous research experience is not necessary as the Programme supervisors provide comprehensive academic supervision and support. The deadline for applications is noon 9th May. CLINKS MEMBER'S NEWS: awards for conflict management
Do you know a young person, adult or organisation who deserves to be recognised for the leadership they have shown in managing conflict in our communities? Leap Confronting Conflict is looking for nominations for their annual award event 'Lighting The Fire' on 19th May. This is an opportunity to acknowledge the achievements of someone you think is inspirational and give them the chance to create a long lasting memory. Nominations close on 13th April. CLINKS MEMBER'S NEWS: making restorative justice work for female offenders
The Restorative Justice Council has published a research report on how to improve female offenders’ access to and experiences of restorative justice. 'Making restorative justice work for women who have offended' is based on interviews with restorative justice practitioners and with women who have themselves gone through a restorative justice process. It calls for partnerships to be developed between women’s centres and restorative justice services to ensure that women taking part in restorative justice can access appropriate support, and highlights the need for restorative justice practitioners to be aware of the particular needs of women who have offended. The report is accompanied by a guide for practitioners. Download the report here
CLINKS MEMBER'S NEWS: youth sector organisations merger
NCVYS, the National Council for Voluntary Youth Services, formally closed on 1st April 2016. The membership service, sector representation and related functions of NCVYS have merged with Ambition from where they will continue to be supported. UK Youth will co-ordinate a partnership of organisations to host the annual youth sector conference Creative Collisions, host their portfolio of safeguarding resources and services, and will be taking forward the management of the Muslim Council of Britain partnership. CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: a strategy for crime prevention
The Home Office has published its 'Modern crime prevention strategy: March 2016', that builds on new research, techniques and technology to update the way we think about crime prevention. The strategy sets out the evidence on six drivers of crime: opportunity, character, effectiveness of the Criminal Justice System, profit, drugs, alcohol. It also sets out what action the government, law enforcement, industry, voluntary sector and the public themselves can take. Download the strategy here
CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: review of financial impositions in criminal courts
The Ministry of Justice's (MoJ) review of financial impositions in criminal courts will explore the structure and purpose of court-ordered financial impositions for offenders. It will consider how the MoJ currently imposes costs and penalties on offenders, to seek to bring greater simplicity and clarity to the system in England and Wales, while ensuring that penalties are levied appropriately and offenders contribute to the costs of administering justice. The MoJ are inviting anyone who has been convicted of an offence and given a financial penalty to take part in a survey. All participants can remain anonymous and all responses will be used for research purposes only. Complete the survey here

FUNDING: prize for drug prevention
The Pompidou Group's European Drug Prevention Prize 2016 is welcoming submissions from high-quality drug prevention projects that fully involve young people. Up to three youth projects will each receive a trophy and prize-money of €5,000. The Prize aims to encourage the development of drug prevention work where young people are actively participating. Projects including innovative approaches, particularly those using new technologies, as well as targeting young people under 18, are particularly encouraged to apply. The deadline for submissions is 31st July 2016. Find out more here
COMMISSIONING: restorative justice service
MOPAC (London Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime) is inviting tenders for a pan-London Restorative Justice Service. This opportunity offers a grant up to the value of £1,300,000 over two and a half years, commencing in June 2016, running to November 2018. Providers must bid for both of two core elements, developing the operating model and running the service. The service is being commissioned on a competitive, conditional grant award process and the deadline for submission of final bids is 6pm on Friday 29th April. CLINKS MEMBER'S EVENT: alternatives to custody
'Alternatives to custody: Quantitative analysis and policy perspectives' is a Centre for Crime and Justice Studies event [20th April, London, optional donation] to explore the state of knowledge on alternatives to custody across the United Kingdom and in Europe. Dr Siddhartha Bandyopadhyay and colleagues from the University of Birmingham will discuss their research on the impact of different forms of non-custodial sentences on police recorded crime rates. Dr Tim Hope, a Visiting Fellow at the Centre for Crime and Justice Studies, will offer a critique of the econometric approach of Dr Bandyopadhyay and colleagues. Find out more here
CLINKS MEMBER'S EVENT: engaging Muslims in the CJS
'Engaging Muslims within the Criminal Justice System' will be an Anti-Youth Violence seminar [28th April, Birmingham, £103.53] to share best practice interventions from cross-sector agencies and partnerships to address the disproportionate number of Black, minority ethnic and specifically Muslim offenders within the Criminal Justice System. In hosting this event, Anti-Youth Violence's project Upstanding Neighbourhoods aims to highlight localised good practice, enabling practitioners from the public, voluntary and faith sectors to consider, devise and implement new strategies in order to engage effectively and reduce risk. CLINKS MEMBER'S EVENT: the issues facing women offenders
POPS is hosting The Anderson Lectures 2016 [28th April, Manchester, free] focussing on the issues facing women offenders and the possible solutions. Speakers will include representatives from Coaching Inside and Out, Prison Reform Trust, Women in Prison, University of Oxford, and POPS. Service users will also be sharing their lived experiences. This annual event is usually over-subscribed, so early registration is advisable. Find out more and book your place here

OPPORTUNITIY: women and girls at risk
Agenda are organising two events in London and Leeds to get input from women and girls at risk into their work, and are looking for ten participants. The 'Women Speak' events will be facilitated group conversations bringing women together to discuss their experiences and help shape Agenda's activities and messaging. Participants will also have the option to be involved in Agenda's future campaigning. They are looking for practitioners to get in touch if they know women (aged 18+) who might be interested.
