FOR DISABLED ENTREPRENEURS [NATIONAL]
The Stelios Award for Disabled Entrepreneurs in the UK identifies and celebrates business ability by recognising an exceptional disabled entrepreneur. The competition is open to disabled entrepreneurs on the management board, and with ownership, of any business in the UK. Eligible businesses must have an annual turnover above £10,000 and have been trading for between two and five years. The Award carries a prize of £50,000. This money is to be reinvested in the winner's business. The deadline for applications is 5pm on 18th September.
COMBATTING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE [EALING]
The Domestic Violence Grant scheme provides grants of £90,000 per year to continue the good practice that exists around domestic violence services in Ealing, and ensure that services continue to be relevant to the needs and priorities of the borough. Applications are invited from not-for-profit voluntary and community groups to deliver: an Independent Domestic Violence Advocacy (IDVA) service based on comprehensive risk and needs assessments for all victims including male victims; and a Black and minority ethnic (BME) specialist service for women and children, to incorporate the comprehensive services as above (excluding the service for male clients) but with a specialist emphasis on the needs of BME clients. The deadline for applications is 12pm on 25th September.
INNOVATIVE YOUTH PROJECTS [NOTTINGHAMSHIRE]
Grants of between £2,000 and £10,000 are available to support innovative new youth projects which encourage and provide support for young people aged 10-19 (up to 25 years in respect of young people with disabilities). Services that will be considered for funding include: youth centres/clubs; mobile and street based youth work; and targeted youth support for vulnerable young people who may be at future risk of further problems such as ill health, unemployment, substance misuse, youth offending, teenage pregnancy and homelessness. The deadline for applications is 31st August.
CREATING JOBS [MERSEYSIDE]
Grants of up to £75,000 are available to assist businesses planning to expand or invest in the Liverpool City Region, creating new jobs for local people. Assistance is available to small and medium-sized enterprises that are based in or relocating to the Liverpool City Region. There doesn't seem to be a deadline on the process, but the grant pot is limited.
PHYSICAL HEALTH [MIDDLESBOROUGH]
Grants of up to £20,000 are available for projects that encourage Middlesbrough residents to get, and stay, more active. Projects should encourage local people to become active; improve long term health conditions through activity and exercise; or change the environment. Applications will be accepted at any time.
COMMUNITY PROJECTS [CORNWALL]
Grants of between £100 and £1,000 are available for projects that are beneficial to Cornwall's residents and demonstrate an understanding of local needs. Projects could: help vulnerable children or adults; help young people; provide facilities for older people; support community facilities; enable local environment projects to take place; or help residents tackle community safety issues. Applications for up to £500 are particularly welcomed, and 100% of project costs can be funded to this amount. Applications for grants over £500, however, can only cover 75% of the project costs. There is no deadline for applications.
CREATING JOBS, SKILLS AND WELLBEING [VARIOUS COMMUNITIES NATIONWIDE]
Grants of between £500 and £10,000 are available to support people in coalfield communities in England. Funding is available for projects that will help people back into work; develop skills and qualifications; or improve health and wellbeing. Applications may be submitted at any time. Eligible locations are within the North East, North West, East Midlands, West Midlands, Yorkshire and Kent.
COMMUNITY OWNED FACILITIES [RYEDALE]
Community based organisations in Ryedale can apply for grants of up to £5,000 for projects that make a positive impact on community owned or managed facilities and activities in Ryedale. This could be a local village hall, play area, sports facility, village owned shop or activities that support the local community. The first deadline for applications is 31st July 2015.
ADDRESSING ROOT CAUSES [NATIONAL]
The Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust funds work that is about addressing the root causes of problems rather than delivering services or alleviating immediate needs, and recognises that change can take many years to achieve. Applications are currently being accepted for projects that: offer non-violent responses to conflict; support people to create a world in which power is more equally shared; promote racial justice and equality of opportunity; or develop and promote sustainable, low-carbon alternatives to the current consumerist and growth-based paradigm. Organisations should be undertaking work that seeks to make positive change across the UK as a whole, or across one or more of its member countries - England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. The deadline for applications is 1st September.
PUPILS WITH ENGLISH AS AN ADDITIONAL LANGUAGE [NATIONAL]
Funding is available for organisations interested in evaluating teaching and learning approaches, as well as intervention programmes, for the purpose of raising the attainment of English as an Additional Language (EAL) pupils, and in particular those groups identified as most at-risk of under-achieving at school. Research suggests that this is less of an issue in London schools than in regions such as Yorkshire and the Humber, the North West and East Midlands. Although this should not exclude London-based schools or organisations from applying, it is important that in the proposal, applicants acknowledge willingness to work with schools in other English regions. Lead applicants must be not-for profit or public bodies. The minimum grant is expected to be £50,000, and there's no maximum grant. The application deadline is 1st October.
ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECTS [NORTH WEST]
Grants of up to £25,000 are available for organisations working in Denbighshire, Flintshire, Wirral and Sefton. The funding is for projects that benefit the community and environment, specifically: Community building provision and improvements; Environmental and wildlife projects; Marine and coastal improvement projects; and Social and community enterprise initiatives. The deadline for applications is 2nd September.
GET YOUR IDEA OFF THE GROUND [NOTTINGHAMSHIRE]
A grant of up to £3,000, plus investment and mentoring, will be provided to keen entrepreneurs in Mansfield and Ashfield who are looking for financial support to help them develop business ideas and set up a new enterprise. The money can be used to fund the costs of developing a business idea and get it off the ground, including the associated capital costs. To be considered for a grant, applicants need to be residents in the Ashfield or Mansfield districts and be able to submit a realistic business plan and have a sound idea for a new enterprise. Applications must be submitted by 9.30am on 7th September.
GET YOUR IDEA OFF THE GROUND [NORTH EAST]
Prizes of up to £2,500 are available for anyone who is thinking of starting a business, in the early stages of running their own business or expanding an existing enterprise in the North East. Everyone who enters will receive free tickets to networking events, hot-desking in some of Gateshead's business centres, support packages from sponsors and connections to people that can help a business. The 'If We Can You Can Challenge' is open to individuals that are 16 or over. Applicants must be either considering turning an idea into a business, have recently established a business or are growing an established business in its first two years of trading in the North East of England. The deadline for applications is 1st October.
GET YOUR IDEA OFF THE GROUND [CHESHIRE]
A £2,500 cash prize is available to reward entrepreneurs in Northwich who have innovative new businesses or business ideas, with start-up funding, advice and mentoring on offer. The prize is coupled with one year's free business advice and support from Howard Worth Chartered Accountants and legal mentoring from Moss Haselhurst Solicitors. The competition is open to any entrepreneur or new business that has been operating for less than one year (i.e. started before 1st June 2014) in the Northwich area located in post code areas CW8 and CW9. The deadline for applications is 31st October.
GETTING YOUR PROJECT OFF THE GROUND [NATIONAL]
Registered charities working in England, Scotland or Wales can apply for grants to support new projects that directly improve the lives of local people or communities across Great Britain. The funding is for projects that charities would like to get off the ground but for which they have no funding. The projects should benefit the local community and cover a wide range of areas including: Health, Education, Arts and culture, or Community. Although there are no set limits to the funding, previous grants have ranged from £5,000 to £20,000, and there are no deadlines.
FOR YOUTH PROJECTS [OUTSIDE LONDON]
Grants of up to £60,000 are available to support organisations that make a positive impact in the lives of young people so that they can realise their potential and enjoy fulfilling and creative lives. The funder is interested in supporting organisations whose main purpose is about helping young people in the most precarious positions where making the transition to adult independence is most challenging, and those who are most vulnerable. Grants of between £10,000 and £60,000 are available for up to two years, with priority given to organisations working in areas of social and economic deprivation outside of London. Funding is available to cover the core costs of an organisation's work. Applications can be submitted at any time.
SUPPORTING YOUNG MIGRANTS [NATIONAL]
Grants of up to £400,000 are available to test new approaches and explore ways of addressing new challenges in the area of migration. Not-for-profit, formally constituted organisations working with young migrants are eligible to apply. Beneficiaries can be in the UK alone or with family, including those who are undocumented or have irregular immigration status. The funder is particularly interested in supporting organisations working with those aged between 14 and 25 years. Applications can be submitted at any time.
INSPIRING YOUNG PEOPLE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE [NATIONAL]
Grants of up to £1,000 are available to inspire and empower young people to make a difference in their communities. Young people in England, Scotland and Wales aged between 16 and 24 years, who are not in education or employment, are eligible to apply. Two young people will need to lead the project and engage a further 50 young people throughout the course of the project. The young people will need to have a youth worker/training organisation able to support them throughout the project. Funding is available for projects that provide a positive benefit to the local community and that look to enhance the young leader's employability and leadership skills. Applications will be considered monthly between July 2015 and March 2016.
WINNING CONTRACTS [NATIONAL]
Specialist support and grants are available to improve the sustainability, capacity and scale of voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations in England so that they may deliver greater social impact. Grants of up to £150,000 are available to support VCSEs who want to prepare themselves for social investment or winning contracts. There are no deadlines.
IMPROVING COASTAL COMMUNITIES [NATIONAL]
Bids are invited for grants to help kick-start the regeneration of at-risk coastal heritage that has the potential to create opportunities for new businesses and jobs. There is no minimum bid. The maximum bid is set at £50,000. The fund is available for both revenue and capital expenditure, and will support projects that demonstrate the creativity, enterprise and passion needed to help seaside towns become year-round destinations that people want to live and work in, and have the potential to kick-start the revival of the remaining lidos and piers currently not reaching their full potential or facing neglect. The deadline for applications is 14th September.
TACKLING FGM [NATIONAL]
Voluntary and community organisations are invited to apply for small grants to help tackle Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in the UK.
