Supporting the young and the old in Cheshire

Cheshire East Council is providing the one-off Cheshire East Giveback (Your Money Fund) with money from a budget surplus of £900,000 from 2013/14. Grants of up to £1,000 are available for young people's uniformed organisations and organisations working with older people with up to £10,000 available in exceptional circumstances. Grants of up to £25,000 are available to faith organisations that are connecting with communities. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until April 2015. Find out more and apply here

Creating jobs in Lincolnshire

Grants of up to £100,000 are available to support the delivery of a specific development project in Gainsborough that will lead to business growth, new employment opportunities and/or the safeguarding of existing jobs. Funding is available for feasibility, planning and capital investment. Applicants must not have received more than £200,000 public sector funding over the last three years. Improving local communities

Grants of between £2,000 and £50,000 are available for projects within a 10 mile radius of a landfill site that can demonstrate commitment to the protection of the environment, and the provision, maintenance or improvement of a public park or another public amenity. Volunteering in Wales

The Volunteering in Wales Fund (VWF) provides financial assistance to support projects that encourage and promote volunteering in Wales. Grants of up to £25,000 are available to support formal volunteering projects that aim to recruit, support, train and place new volunteers; encourage good practice in volunteering; and support the development of volunteering in under-developed areas. Funding can be used to assist in the costs of a volunteer coordinator, volunteer training and travelling expenses and some capital items. The deadline for applications is 5pm on 13th March 2015. Reducing demand for public services in Leicestershire

The SHIRE Community Grant offers local groups and organisations in Leicestershire up to £2,500 funding for services and activities that support vulnerable people, promote independence and reduce demand for public services. Supporting communities close to Gatwick Airport

Grants of between £250 and £5,000 are available from the Gatwick Airport Community Trust’s (GACT’s) annual grant scheme. Organisations should be working in Kent, East Sussex, Surrey and West Sussex. Projects should target: The development of young people; Arts projects, including music, art and amateur dramatics; Sporting facilities; Conservation and environmental improvement; Community facility improvements; Supporting the disabled; Supporting the elderly; Encouraging volunteering within the community. New businesses in South Oxfordshire

Businesses that are less than two years old as at 31st December 2014 and are based in Southern Oxfordshire can apply to a new competition with prizes including: a free furnished or virtual office for 12 months in one of the competition provider's business centres. The prize is worth up to £6,000 and includes up to three workstations and broadband. They will also benefit from: a full financial review from Clark Howes worth over £1,000; a website review with OXLink; and a face-to-face advice package with help and support from the Oxford Business Mentors. To enter, applicants have to describe in 100 words or less, what they have learnt and achieved in their first two years in business. The deadline for applications is 28th February 2015. Inclusive communities in Worcestershire

Grants of between £500 and £10,000 are available for projects in Worcestershire that involve people from different backgrounds or with differing abilities to make lasting contributions to their local community. Examples of eligible spends include community buildings (such as the purchase of land), leisure and recreational activities, sports, arts, one-off schemes with a distinct start and finish, sponsorship of an event and the purchase of equipment. All applicants are required to attend a briefing in February or March about the grant scheme at the Wychavon Civic Centre. The deadline for applications is 27th March 2015. Pitch your business idea to Harrow Council

Harrow Council has announced a second round of its business support competition, operating in the style of the popular television series Dragons' Den, to help firms in the borough develop their ideas. Entrepreneurs and existing companies will have an opportunity to pitch their idea, product or service to a panel of enterprise professionals for a chance to win a package of business assistance. The deadline for receipt of applications is Sunday 15th February 2015. Find out more and apply here

Giving young people in East Sussex a voice

East Sussex County Council is making funds available to support organisations wishing to set up, or improve existing, ‘Youth Voice’ groups in East Sussex. These groups should act as a platform for young people to express their views and opinions and provide a meaningful way to include them in the wider community. Priority will be given to new projects wishing to become established and that are able to demonstrate a long-term commitment to continuing the group once funding has been spent. Applicants wishing to apply are required to write a proposal of up to 1,000 words in their bid for funding. Proposals should include ideas for the group and an outline of what the funding will be used for. The deadline for applications is 16th February 2015. Find out more and apply here

Creating lasting change in North East communities

Grants are available for community projects in Tyne & Wear and Northumberland that empower local people and enable them to create lasting change in their communities. Projects should be run by people directly affected by the issues being dealt with, and priority will be given to small, locally-based groups or organisations in areas of disadvantage that have a clear understanding of the needs of their community. Grants of between £1,000 and £10,000 are available and must be for at least 30% of the total costs of the project. Funding can be used to cover core costs, salaries and project costs. Improving local communities in Norfolk

The Comic Relief Local Communities programme in Norfolk has grants of between £1,000 and £10,000 available for organisations to respond to local economic needs, increase community cohesion, build the skills of local people, and increase local services. Examples of the types of projects that can be funded through this programme include food co-ops, community employment projects, residential sporting activities and training courses for volunteers, staff and committee members. The deadline for applications is 5pm on 13th February 2015. Find out more and apply here

Local organisations in Calderdale can apply for up to £10,000 funding to empower local people, enabling them to create lasting change in their communities. Projects should be run by people directly affected by the issues they are dealing with and priority will be given to small, locally based groups or organisations in areas of disadvantage that have a clear understanding of the needs of their community. The funding is intended to help organisations increase local services, build the skills of local people, increase community cohesion, and respond to local economic needs. NATIONAL FUNDING

Supporting young people

The Rank Foundation has grants available for organisations delivering projects to encourage and develop leadership amongst young people; support disadvantaged young people and those frail or lonely through old age or disability; promote the understanding of the values, traditions and practices of the Christian faith, from a perspective that respects those of all faiths and those of none. They also have a small grants programme for organisations with a turnover of less than £1m. There are no deadlines for this nationwide funding, so find out more and apply here

Opportunities for young people

The Dulverton Trust awards grants typically between £10,000 to £30,000. The Trust currently supports a wide range of activities that provide opportunities for young people. The Trust aims to support charities that help disadvantaged children and young people to adopt a more positive attitude to their lives, raise their aspirations and realise their full potential, including those providing advice and skills training, help with finding employment, engagement with local communities and volunteering opportunities. Improving quality of life for the disadvantaged

The Bernard Sunley Charitable Foundation provides grant funding for capital projects which aim to help raise the quality of life in the UK, particularly for the young, disadvantaged and older people. Applicants may apply for any level of grant but large grants (over £25,000) are exceptional. Grants are divided into Community, Education, Arts, Health, Social Welfare, Amateur Sport, Emergency and Armed Forces, Environment, Animal Welfare. Find out more and apply here

Supporting offenders and ex-offenders

The Allen Lane Foundation provides grants of up to £15,000 to organsiations supporting asylum-seekers and refugees, offenders and ex-offenders, LGBT groups, people experiencing mental health problems and people experiencing violence or abuse. Find out more and apply here

Social entrepreneurs

The Big Venture Challenge, a competition to find and reward early-stage social enterprises, is looking for 40 social entrepreneurs coming from four cohorts. Two thematic cohorts of 10 ventures will cover the themes of Employment and Young People and Education. A regional cohort of 10 will take ventures from the South West and East of England. There will also be a general cohort open to ventures across the country. During the 12 month programme there is £1.7 million in match funding available for 40 winners to access. Applicants may apply for any amount of between £25,000 and £100,000. Eligible applicants are those who are the founders of their social enterprise venture, which must be less than five years old and based and operating in England. Financial education and employability

The Yorkshire & Clydesdale Bank Foundation aims to support projects that advance financial education, improve employability and promote environmental protection. Organisations are eligible to apply for funding for projects that will benefit communities where the Bank operates. In each of the three categories, one project will receive an award of £10,000 and three projects will receive £5,000. The deadline for applications is 6th March 2015. Find out more and apply here

Helping young people turn their ideas into reality

O2 Think Big aims to find young people with great ideas and help them turn their ideas into reality. This is done by awarding funding and delivering training and support. Up to £3,000 is available for projects that help the community or tackle a problem with society, and funding can be spent on anything appropriate that will make the project work, apart from on a salary for the applicant. Beyond that, applicants can do everything or anything – the more bold and creative the ideas, the better. Individuals or groups between the ages of 13 and 25 can apply for, and run, a project; however, people of any age can get involved by becoming fans or members of the project in the UK. Addressing fuel poverty

Grants of up to £50,000 are available to registered charities in Great Britain for projects that address fuel poverty explicitly and as the primary purpose and include the provision of energy efficiency advice. Organisations can apply for funding to support projects or schemes that cover energy efficiency measures; income maximisation; fuel debt assistance; or any combination of the above. The next deadline is 3rd February 2015. Find out more and apply here

The impact of arts and culture

Arts Council England has launched a new research grants programme that will help build on collective knowledge and deepen understanding of the impact of arts and culture, and to promote greater collaboration and co-operation between the arts and cultural sector and research partners. The application must be a joint collaboration between an arts and/or cultural organisation and a research partner. The arts and/or cultural organisation must be the lead applicant. In the first round (2015-16) organisations can apply for funding for projects that last for up to three years. Applications can be made for grants between £50,000 and £100,000 per year. Innovation in health and social care

Funding from one to three years (there is no set value for the grants) is available to voluntary sector organisations in England to support proposals in the health and care field with a clear focus on supporting and driving forward new ideas, disseminating and replicating excellence and/or the undertaking of strategic developments in voluntary sector capacity and/or capability in health and care. Proposals must have, or plan to have, a national impact; making a difference to the health and well-being of people across England; and have equality and tackling health inequalities as their core activities. The deadline for expressing an interest is 13th March 2015. Find out more and apply here

Supporting people affected by cancer

The Supporting You to Help Others Grants programme aims to provide people affected by cancer with opportunities to use their experiences to support others, while also receiving support themselves. Funding is available for start-up costs for new self help and support and user groups; development funds to support the ongoing activities and development of self help and support projects for people affected by cancer; user involvement grants to encourage the involvement of people affected by cancer in the design and improvement of cancer services; individual development grants to enable people affected by cancer to develop their skills and use their cancer experience to help support others affected by cancer. Grants can be for up to £500 for projects that have been running for less than 12 months and up to £3,000 for projects that have been in existence for more than 12 months.
