Work better with the health regulator
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) wants to hear what local voluntary organisations think should be included in their relationship guidance. The aim of the guidance is to provide clarity about how it will work with local voluntary organisations, what to expect from the CQC and how to share information with them. Health and the voluntary sector
NHS England has published a Voluntary Sector Partnership Podcast. It explores the value of a joined-up way of working between health systems and the voluntary sector, identifying the benefits of voluntary sector involvement in health and care partnerships and what this means for clinicians and their patients. What Matters To You day
NHS England's What Matters to You day, held on the 6th June, aims to encourage more meaningful interactions between health and care professionals and individuals by having more person-centred conversations. The day will help to raise awareness and celebrate the positive impact that asking What Matters to You can have on the lives of individuals. Register and order free resources from NHS England here
Safeguarding resources
The Ann Craft Trust, an organisation which supports organisations to safeguard disabled children and adults at risk and minimise the risk of harm, is creating resources on safeguarding for voluntary organisations. You can contribute to the development of the resources here
Supporting women’s mental health
The Health and Wellbeing Alliance has produced a new resource, Engaging with complexity, to help public services become trauma-informed to support women’s mental health. The resource is shaped by a review of literature and consultations involving women with expertise by experience and professionals with an interest in trauma-informed approaches. It explores how to provide trauma-informed care that responds to the particular experiences and needs of women. Download the report here
Briefing on multiple needs
This is the first in a series of briefings on multiple needs, drawing on data collected by Fulfilling Lives partnerships on their beneficiaries. In it they explore the substantial cost to the public purse created by misdirected and avoidable use of public services. The briefing also highlights the positive impact on individuals and services of Fulfilling Lives support. Download the briefing here
Shaping health and care
The Kings Fund has launched a new report, Investing in quality, looking at the contribution of large charities in shaping future health and care. Commissioned by the National Garden Scheme, this report explores how the work of the National Garden Scheme and its beneficiaries fits within the context of the future of policy development in health and care. Improving the health of rough sleepers
The Health and Social Care Secretary has announced that £1.9 million will be given to councils by Public Health England to help improve the health of rough sleepers. The funding will be awarded to projects that improve access to health services and continuity of care for people with mental ill-health and substance misuse problems who are sleeping rough, or at risk of returning to rough sleeping. The deadline for applications is 5th July. Find out more here
Closing the employment gap for young people
This toolkit, developed by the Health & Wellbeing Alliance and the Young People’s Health Partnership, is aimed at those supporting 16–25 year olds experiencing common mental health problems to gain and stay in work. The UK has the third highest percentage of early leavers from education and training in the EU and 3/4 of mental health problems start by the age of 24. Young people’s mental and emotional wellbeing can significantly affect their ability to apply for, obtain and maintain work. Download the toolkit here
Mental health and prevention
Association of Mental Health Providers will be hosting an engagement event [4th June, Bristol, free] with workshops on Mental Health and Prevention. The workshop sessions will explore voluntary organisations’ role in mental health prevention to reduce health inequalities. More information and booking here
Transforming health care together
The Institute for Voluntary Action Research (IVAR), Social Enterprise UK and NCVO are delivering a programme of workshops, webinars and events [Various dates between now and September | London, Manchester, Leeds and Birmingham | free] to support leaders within health, care and the voluntary sector who want to effect transformation through partnership working. The NHS Long Term Plan commits local healthcare systems to working in a new way. Building relationships will be essential for the leaders charged with bringing this ambitious vision to life. Personality disorder

Youth voice summit
Ruth May, the Chief Nursing Officer for England and an executive/national director at NHS England and NHS Improvement, has blogged about her recent attendance at the NHS Youth Voice Summit. Co-designed and delivered by young people, over 200 children and young people, youth support workers and senior leaders met to discuss the ambitions set out within the NHS Long Term Plan and how these goals can be achieved in the context of youth volunteering and social action.
