Clinks regularly hosts a variety of events and training for voluntary sector organisations that work with offenders and their families. Below are some of our upcoming events - please note places are limited so do book early to avoid disappointment...
Networking forum: working with women in the Criminal Justice System
[23rd June, Preston, free for members/£30 for non-members]
Clinks, Women’s Breakout, Women’s Resource Centre and Agenda are hosting a series of networking forums for voluntary sector organisations working with women in the Criminal Justice System. The meetings will: provide an update on policy developments in this area of work; provide networking and support; and enable Clinks to represent you to government and other key stakeholders - including the Advisory Board for Female Offenders hosted by the Ministry of Justice, and the Reducing Reoffending Third Sector Advisory Group (RR3) which Clinks chairs. By bringing the organisations hosting this event together, we aim to minimise the time we ask of women’s organisations and promote partnership working and support. For bookings please email events@clinks.org
Arts in prison: increasing access and delivering innovation
[23rd June, Birmingham, free]
This half-day workshop hosted by The National Alliance for Arts in Criminal Justice, with pioneering arts organisation Safe Ground, will be an opportunity for experienced arts practitioners and new members to come together with leaders in the field and consider the challenges of delivering successful arts interventions in a prison setting. Safe Ground challenges people and communities to do relationships differently. This event is a creative reflection on the barriers to doing arts-based work in prisons, using Safe Ground's methodology to explore, challenge and acknowledge some of what makes working in the Criminal Justice System so difficult and so rewarding. For bookings please email events@clinks.org
Report launch: a review of volunteer involvement in prison
[5th July, London, free]
What are the benefits of volunteering in prisons? Where are there current examples of good practice, and where are there gaps? What are the key supports and barriers to effective volunteer involvement in prisons? Clinks and the Ministry of Justice invite you to attend the launch of Clinks' report 'Valuing volunteers in prison: a review of volunteer involvement', which explore how we can increase volunteering in prisons across England and Wales. The report will be launched by Andrew Selous, the Minister for Prisons, Probation and Rehabilitation, and we are inviting representatives from across government, prisons, Community Rehabilitation Companies, and the voluntary sector. For bookings please email events@clinks.org
How to change public opinion on justice issues
[13th July, North Wales, free for members/£50 for non-members]
Change hearts and minds on justice issues! This workshop will look at how to use powerful new approaches to win arguments on the justice system, presenting the results of new research into how the public responds to sector messages about the Criminal Justice System and rehabilitation. Nearly half the UK population still supports the death penalty and seven in ten think sentences are too soft - so advocates and experts have a mountain still to climb to change the debate on criminal justice. This workshop will support you to develop powerful messages for your organisation, and to apply these to increase your impact on the public, the media and policy makers. For bookings please email events@clinks.org
