Sharing good practice from a prison literacy project
[6th March, London & 12th March, Manchester, 10am - 4pm, free]
- How can the arts encourage reluctant learners into prison education?
- How can prisoners with lower literacy levels enjoy creative writing workshops?
Write to be Heard, an arts and education project run by the Arts Alliance, has been working with Geese Theatre Company, Prison Radio Association and creative writers to deliver 28 creative writing workshops in prisons across the country. The workshops successfully targeted prisoners who were not confident writers, including those with little or no literacy. The Arts Alliance is hosting two free events to take forward the learning points of the project and to explore how arts organisations can work with prisons and education providers to improve offenders’ literacy and life skills.
