Race, mental health and criminal justice:
Better practice, integration and patient experience
6th November, 10.00am - 4.00pm | central London | free
Evidence shows that people with mental health problems from Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) communities are more likely to access services via the Criminal Justice System (CJS).
This free one day conference, delivered by Nacro and the Race Equality Foundation with support from Clinks, aims to understand and explore various strategies to ensure that people with mental health problems from BAME communities, in contact with the CJS, will have their needs met and be able to access appropriate services.
The workshops at the conference will cover the following areas:
- Interventions for children and young people and their families in contact with the CJS
- Offender mental health and parity of esteem
- Liaison and diversion services/resettlement and reintegration: making it work for better mental health
- The role of advocacy in improving outcomes
- Service user design of services
Confirmed speakers include Kate Davies OBE, NHS England; Jabeer Butt, Race Equality Foundation; and Professor Eddie Kane, Centre for Health & Justice, University of Nottingham.
