Anne Peaker lecture and panel debate
[17th November, 6-9pm, Central London, free]
This year's Anne Peaker lecture and panel debate will focus on developing a multi-disciplinary theory for arts in criminal justice settings. This will be an excellent opportunity to explore the ongoing issues around evidencing the value of the arts in the Criminal Justice System; to network with professionals in this field, and celebrate the inspirational work of the sector.
The keynote lecture by Professor Sarah Colvin, University of Cambridge, will explore how we can look to other disciplines such as education and health for a richer understanding of how the arts can support the desistance process. The lecture will be followed by a panel debate with...
- Dreda Say Mitchell, award winning crime writer, commentator and advocate for arts and culture
- Shân Maclennan, Creative Director of Learning and Participation at the Southbank Centre; involved in the evolution of learning work at the Southbank Centre since the early 1990s
- Andrew Dickinson, Governor of HMP Wealstun and advocate for arts in prison
- We will also be welcoming an ex-offender to the panel to share their experiences of participating in the arts in a criminal justice setting
The evening will be chaired by Professor Geoffrey Crossick, Director of the Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Cultural Value Project and Chair of the Crafts Council.
There will also be a performance by a leading arts organisation, and the event will end with a drinks reception. The discussions, and your contributions at the event, will help shape our current research work into the arts and desistance and we very much hope you can join us.
Space is limited, so book early to secure your place.
