Using effective practice from Norway and the USA to develop a rehabilitative culture in UK prisons
27th October, Birmingham, from £25
This thought-provoking afternoon seminar is a great opportunity to learn about effective practice in Norway and broaden thinking in regard to developing a rehabilitative culture in UK prisons.
You will hear from Andy Laidlaw, Head of Reducing Re-offending at HMP Risley, and Sara Lee, Artistic Director of the Irene Taylor Trust, about their 2015 Winston Churchill Travel Fellowships.
Andy visited the USA as part of his Travel fellowship to research the impact of effective mentoring on community safety and reducing re-offending. He discovered a plethora of examples of good practice and also some quite pioneering work in the most unlikely of places. He will talk about how what he learnt could translate to the current reform agenda in the UK. Sara's Travel fellowship took her to the USA and Norway where she explored the role music can play in resettlement and crime prevention. She'll be talking about her experiences and good practice that could be used in the UK.
If you're interested in prison resettlement, mentoring, arts in prisons, or just want to know more about what other countries are doing and how we can learn from them, then this one off seminar is for you.
