This bulletin also includes updates about the Transforming Rehabilitation agenda and information about up and coming events, supporting arts in criminal justice settings. So, to find out more and to take part in our annual survey please read on… Arts Alliance pilot mentoring scheme is now open The Arts Alliance pilot mentoring scheme is now ‘live’ and we are looking for individuals who would like to take part. This scheme is aimed at new and emerging arts practitioners, facilitators and leaders who would like to develop their professional skills and knowledge in arts in criminal justice. We have a range of mentors from across our membership with a diverse range of skills and experiences. More details can be found on the Arts Alliance website. If you would be interested in having a mentor and would like to take part in our pilot project, please contact Jessica Plant Write to be Heard update: awards open on 9th September Write to be Heard is up and running, National Prison Radio are now broadcasting inspirational sound bites into prisoners’ cells, and creative writing workshops are scheduled to take place in 25 prisons throughout August and September. The awards will be open for submissions from the 9th September and close on the 11th November. We are encouraging participants to enter under four different categories:
1st May 2013 – 15th September 2013 | 10:00 - 17:00 | London Flourish are a specialist arts organisation who showcase art work by young people looked after in care, they currently have an exhibition at the Foundling Museum in London. The exhibition includes painting, sculpture and photography by talented artists up to the age of 25, each of whom has experienced the challenges of growing up being looked after by someone other than their parents. For more details visit the Foundling Museum Website Streetwise Opera - film screening4th August | Riverside Studios | London The Answer to Everything is a film opera starring a cast of 120 homeless people from Streetwise’s 11 groups around Great Britain. Dance United's Stage 1 training course2nd – 5th September Winchester and 9th – 12th September LondonThis summer Dance United is offering its four-day training course that looks at how to deliver high-quality dance when working with challenging groups in the community. Dance United’s Stage 1 training course is accredited by Open College Network and those completing the course have the option to be awarded with a Level 3 Unit in Social Inclusion Practice in Dance (Credit Value: 3) by OCN. To apply for a place on the course, please send your CV and a short covering letter – no more than one A4 page – explaining why you would like to complete the course to Lorna Digweed for Winchester and Haris Marathefti for London. Fee: £250 (or £225 without OCN accreditation.) Changes to the Probation service set out in the Transforming Rehabilitation programme look likely to go ahead within the planned timetable, with the invitation to tender set to be announced in late August. Organisations who want to stay informed are encouraged to register with the Prior Information Notice (PIN), which allows you to express an interest in being a provider as part of the supply chain and keep informed about prime providers who are considering bidding. You can also make links with other organisations through the new online Clinks Partnership Finder. Keep informed and find out all you need to know about the PIN, Market Stewardship, the payment mechanisms as well as relevant events on the Clinks Transforming Rehabilitation webpage. Resettlement prisons announcedThe Ministry of Justice have announced their plans on resettlement prisons, which aim to provide statutory supervision and rehabilitation in the community for every offender released from custody. The new Resettlement prisons will be aligned with the 21 new Contract Package Areas. To read more about the plans and how this links with the Rehabilitation bill currently before Parliament, please view the Ministry of Justice Website Youth Justice Board to remain non-departmental public bodyThe Triennial Review of the Youth Justice Board, stage one report has been released this week. The main feature announced is that the Youth Justice Board is set to continue, which is a positive signal that youth justice remains a key priority for the current government.
