Arts Alliance Research Launch and the annual Anne Peaker debate:
Exploring arts interventions and the process of desistance and where next for arts and criminal justice research?
Thursday 7th November, 6.00pm - 8.30pm
Southbank Centre, London, SE1 8XX
Creating desistance research launch
The Arts Alliance will be presenting the findings from our new research carried out by Northumbria University (Charlotte Bilby & Louise Ridley) and Bath Spa University (Laura Caulfield). The research explores how various art forms such as music, visual arts and craft processes can contribute towards creating desistance.
The launch of this research points to key recommendations for arts organisations working with offenders, government officials and commissioners.
The Anne Peaker debate
The findings will be followed by a panel discussion chaired by Kim Evans OBE (Clean Break). Kim will be joined by Professor Rodney Morgan (Emeritus Professor of Criminal Justice, University of Bristol) and Gerard Lemos (Lemos & Crane) along with other writers, academics and policy makers from the field.
The debate will explore questions such as; where next for arts and criminal justice research? How can we engage both arts and criminology academics? Can the arts meaningfully stay within the reoffending discourse in the current political climate? How can we ensure learning from research is translated into policy and good practice?
