Forensic Psychologist

We are looking for a Forensic Psychologist to join our Behavioural Change and Support Services Unit (BCSSU) and provide their professional opinion to our colleagues whilst they conduct suitability screening and assessments for participants joining our service.

Our BCSSU delivers evidence-based and innovative interventions and services to individuals who, due to multiple or complex needs, require specialist behaviour change treatment or holistic support. Our work within the criminal justice sector is not restricted to those who have a conviction, and our interventions take place remotely, in the community and in custodial settings.

We’ll need your understanding of behavioural change models and desistance approaches, to help reduce re-offending and negative behaviours. Your professional expertise will contribute to specific elements of perpetrator assessments that require psychological input, plus provide consultancy support to colleagues in relation to psychology services and outcomes.

Our successful candidate will need to be a registered clinician with an associated and relevant professional body (e.g. British Psychological Society) and ideally have experience within the justice sector. This is an excellent opportunity to promote positive change, the protection of victims and children, plus the development of pro-social behaviour through a multi-agency approach.

Key Responsibilities

• Offer professional expertise to support with screening and assessments of participants.
• Provide consultancy support to colleagues in relation to psychological services and outcomes.
• Work with the BCSSU Deputy Manager to develop strategy and plans of activity for the unit.
• Provide information as required to the BCSSU Service Manager, to support the monitoring and tracking of performance against contracted targets.

Skills & Experience

Essential Criteria

• Experience working in the criminal justice sector
• Experience working with perpetrators of domestic abuse and/or stalking
• Good understanding of behavioural change models and desistance approaches to reduce re-offending
• Experience in supporting colleague development
• Fully IT literate in using a range of Microsoft Office programmes and digital technologies, e.g., Microsoft Teams
• Qualified and registered clinician with an associated and relevant professional body e.g., BPS

Essential experience in two or more of the following:

• Review and support colleagues delivering behaviour change interventions.
• Delivery of individual interventions to support positive change and reduce reoffending.
• Knowledge of the supportive and rehabilitative service provides to support holistic solutions.
• Provision of consultancy to colleagues
• Provision of complex assessments
• Working in a multi-agency framework
